Harwich will play host to the National Powerboat Championships over the weekend of 30th/31st July and 1st August 2010, which will become an annual event.

Various classes will be racing, including Marathon, Offshore 3C and 3B, OCR (Offshore Circuit Racing), V24s, RIBs, and the Thundercats with their spectacular Le Mans style start from the beach.

The racing will take place in Dovercourt Bay, in front of Cliff Park and alongside Dovercourt promenade. The pit area will be on St. Helens Green, Harwich, where the public will be able to look over the boat they have been supporting during the day and talk to the drivers.

Offshore Powerboat racing in the UK is probably one of the best examples of an extreme water sport, which is both challenging and highly competitive. The sport is administered by the Royal Yachting Association, who in association with their affiliated clubs, both organise and regulate the sport.

There are several different levels of competitive racing which are designed to both encourage those new to the sport and to satisfy existing competitors at National and International level.

Powerboat racing is fast, furious, fantastically exciting and above all safe. The Royal Yachting Association ensures the rules are applied correctly, thus creating affordable safe racing for all.
